About AmandaFor those of you who may not know Amanda, she is twelve years old and attends Harborside Elementary in Chula Vista, California. She is in the sixth grade and has proudly participated in safety patrol for the last two years. Amanda has been recognized as a Super Citizen and has received many achievement awards. Amanda has received awards for; Super Citizen, Respect and Responsibility and a Certificate of Achievement for participating in a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics experience through Starbase Atlantis at the Naval Base in San Diego. After high school, Amanda would like to continue her education and receive a Doctorate Degree. She aspires to be the President of the United States of America, a teacher, or an archeologist. For fun, Amanda loves to play tennis, swim and read, read and read. Her favorite book is Running out of Time by Margaret Peterson Haddix. She is currently reading The Borrowers by Mary Norton and The Sight by David Clement-Davis. Amanda was nominated for this Conference by her teacher, Mrs. Kalen Miller, who recognized her as one of a select group of students with the scholastic merit, maturity and strengh of character to represent Harborside Elementary School and the State of California. With this opportunity, Amanda will be able to learn important leadership, communication, problem solving and team working skills. Attending the JRNYLC will help Amanda learn how to apply these skills in her community. 'Amanda is a great leader in class. She is responsible and hard working.'
